Sunderland trained at TOI WHAAKARE, formerly known as THE
NEW ZEALAND DRAMA SCHOOL. He has worked intensively in theatre
during the past ten years and is currently one of the most
prolific actors in the New Zealand indie scene – having
also broken into mainstream cinema since working on THE LAST
MAGIC SHOW with his highly acclaimed starring role as David
Gray in OUT OF THE BLUE, the 2006 film about a man who held
an entire small town in New Zealand at gunpoint.
Sunderland's work in New Zealand independent film includes
appearances in WOODENHEAD (2003), GREGORY KING's, CHRISTMAS
(2003) and 2007's Science Fiction Thriller STRINGER.
Sunderland also recently appeared in GREGORY KING's feature
film for the HEADSTRONG PROJECT, A SONG OF GOOD, which debuted
at the Berlin Film Festival.
