ANDY
CONLAN
ANDY CONLAN has worked as a director, writer and actor in Film,
Theatre and Radio, as well as working as a cartoonist and illustrator.
During his second year at Auckland University, where he was
studying English Literature, he wrote, co-directed and acted
in his first play, FODDER, with his second play, AUCTION, performed
the following year.
As a cartoonist, he wrote, drew and published STRUMMING TEETH,
a local comic magazine that was distributed free throughout
his city to achieve cult status during the late 1990's. At the
time, Conlan also illustrated advertisements for clients as
diverse as CHUBBY CHECKER and GREENPEACE. As well as comics
and advertising illustration, he's also written and illustrated
a novella called THE WAITING PIG which was first released in
New Zealand to critical acclaim in 2004.
His first short film, SOULMATE, was one of the ten films in
competition in the 2003 RIVER CITY FILM FESTIVAL in New Zealand.
Another of his short films, THE PUGILIST, debuted at the FRINGE
FILM FESTIVAL in Wellington the same year.
In addition to his own projects, he's also appeared in local
independent productions such as TYRANNICAL LOVE and MUNDANE,
as well as the offbeat television comedy BARRY.
An accomplished voice over artist, he's also created a whole
range of characters for local television animations and animated
short films and was a Radio Producer/Co-Host for New Zealand's
classic show with PETER SINCLAIR, LOVE SONGS 'TIL MIDNIGHT.
Conlan is also a Ring Announcer for fight events, having performed
at International Thai Kickboxing events, No-Holds Barred Events
and K-1.
Before THE LAST MAGIC SHOW
premieres in New Zealand, Conlan will be appearing in the
upcoming shows THE JAQUIE BROWN DIARIES (TV3) and JUNGLE FEVER
2 (Juice Television).
